HDHU.9813SG Headunit Firmware Update (May 2025)

WARNING: Before attempting this update, please read these instructions carefully and don’t skip any steps, and be sure to use a blank flash drive (FAT32 format) from a reputable brand (SanDisk, Samsung, etc). If the flash drive is not empty, be sure to format it. You can find instructions on how to format a flash drive HERE.

A minimum 4GB or larger (32gb Max) USB Type-A flash drive with USB 2.0 or 3.0 is required. Larger flash drive sizes 64gb or larger will not work. Using a flash drive with unknown USB specification will diminish data transfer and can corrupt the system processors. Use reliable name-brand USB flash drives. We use and recommend SanDisk Cruzer.

Update Instructions:

  1. Download 9813SG-241216.zip from THIS LINK
  2. Extract the contents of 9813SG-241216.zip and save onto a blank USB Type-A flash/thumb drive. The USB should have a file named ISPBOOOT.BIN and a folder named update. The update folder should have a file inside it named st25mcu.bin. Any additional folders or files on the flash drive may prevent HDHU.9813SG from recognizing the update files; delete them. Any additional letters or characters in the folder and/or file name like -2, (2), etc. may prevent HDHU.9813SG from recognizing the update files. Rename the folder or file and delete any extra characters if necessary.

  1. Turn-on the bike to accessory power.
  2. Connect the flash drive to the USB Type-A input for HDHU.9813SG.
  3. After HDHU.9813SG has completed its start-up sequence, the Main Menu should appear. If the Main Menu is not shown, tap the Home icon or Back Arrow in the top left corner until the Main Menu is displayed. Tap the Settings icon on the shortcut bar.

  1. Tap System Settings at the top of the settings list.

  2. Tap About at the bottom of the System Settings list. This will display the current software versions of your HDHU.9813SG.

  1. Tap the Update button below.

If the Update button is not active, double check the files on the flash drive are named correctly as described in step 2. Then, repeat steps 4-8. If the update button is still not active, contact Bryan Piper in our technical support office at 1-866-906-6866.

  1. After a moment, a pop-up with the new MCU version information should appear. The new MCU version should be 1.00.00. SOC version will be “BOOT Update.” Tap the Update button below to begin the MCU update. If one or the other is blank, repeat step 2 and verify the file and folder are present and correctly named.

  1. A progress bar should appear and will increase to 50% as the MCU update is completing.

11.     When the MCU update completes, the HDHU.9813SG may turn off or the screen may flash, don’t panic. After a moment or two, the SOC update screen will appear, and the update will start…

12.    When the MCU update completes, your HDHU-9813SG will restart.

13. To confirm the update was successful, repeat steps 4-7 to view the software versions; MCU should now be HD-9813SG-241216 and SOC should be HDHU.9813SG-230615.

If all the numbers match, the update is complete & the USB can be removed.
